13 June NBA Finals--Game 4--Attack on court comes w/o punishment
view Pietrus' fists, now read the story, then read my reaction ORLANDO (AP)-- Pau Gasol is from Spain, Mickael Pietrus from France. So when they have a confrontation on the court, what language is it in?"I said it in English to make sure he understood it," Gasol said. "If I would have known it in French, I would have said it in French." Pietrus was called for a flagrant foul for pushing Gasol in the back as the Lakers forward completed a dunk with 3.4 seconds left in overtime of Los Angeles' 99-91 victory in Game 4. Gasol started yelling at Pietrus and the players came together, and both were assessed technical fouls. "I said a couple of things that I can't repeat on camera," Gasol said. Gasol said it felt more like a punch than a push, and was angry because he was already in the air, too late for Pietrus to attempt a play on the ball. But he understood it came out of frustration. Lakers coach Phil Jackson said it looked like Pietrus had "a serious intention to come at him," but wouldn't say if there should be any further punishment for the Magic guard. The NBA said Friday there would be none. "I wasn't trying to be a jerk," Pietrus said. "I've been in the NBA for seven years and have never been considered a dirty player. The whole fan base watched him blatantly with both fists, strike Gasol with hammer-type fists. It wasn’t a push. Those hands struck Gasol, period. Anyone who says differently is either a liar him/herself or a plain idiot. The NBA states there will be no further punishment? What is wrong with those clowns? Pietrus needs to lose Game 5. He needs to be suspended for the Flagrant II type foul. Not a Flagrant I. Huge difference. Imagine being so frustrated and angered at the player who, although the game is pretty much over, goes ahead and pours salt in the wound, by dunking the Basketball for another two points? And imagine being in a position to do something about it, but only have seconds to respond. Now, let’s ask the question: was that a Flagrant I or Flagrant II foul? ---rty11 June Lakers win game 4Amway Arena--Orlando, Florida--June 11, 2009--Well, with game 4 out of the way, it should be a foregone conclusion the Los Angeles Lakers will win this series in Orlando. I would prefer it be won in Los Angeles, but bottom line is I just want the Lakers to win the 2009 NBA Finals. So it doesn't matter where.
Trevor Ariza showed why the Lakers got him in the trade last year. Pau Gasol shows daily why it was important that the Lakers steal him from (where was he?). Now, with Andrew Bynum in the mix, we have quite a front court of specimens, including Lamar Odom. Point Guard Derek Fisher may have missed a few 3 pointers during the course of the game, but he made those two in a row when it mattered most. Taft High specialist Jordan Farmar is worth every cent or dollar the Lakers spent to get him. I watched him in High School and College. I was so happy to hear when the Lakers drafted him. He is such a presence when he's in the game. Kobe is Kobe. No one can stop him but Kobe himself.
GAME 4 FINAL SCORE: LAKERS 99, MAGIC 91 OT
Orlando Magic's Dwight Howard is a great player and I would rather see him in a Laker uniform, but until that happens, I will always choose the Lakers over any team he is on. What Michael Pietrus did to Pau Gasol in the closing seconds ot Game 4 showed such immaturity that I hope he not only gets a heavy fine for the Flagrant II foul, but I would be upset if he is not suspended for Game 5. --rty
